Today was a jam-packed day: aside from a graduate school fair, my first human skeletal lab, and first management test, I was able to volunteer at UTSC’s Artside Out Event this year. It was my first time here, and based on its mission of “becoming Scarborough’s largest arts festival” and “transforming the entire campus into an interactive gallery”, I was expecting it to be a huge deal – especially considering all the hype around it. Unfortunately, I was thoroughly disappointed. Displays were very dispersed and in random corners; and there didn’t seem to be any innovation to any of the works – everything was just a version of something I’d already seen done before by famous artists who were the first ones to do it. Moreover, there actually seemed to be less people on campus than usual. It was just another normal day… with a sculpture/painting or two on the side.
