Photo Shoot With Rachelia

Had the awesome privilege of shooting a fellow OCAD buddy today! It had been a long while since I took portraits of someone, so I felt a tad (or a lot) out of touch as a director, but Rachelia made the job especially easy and fun!

Took a little stroll around town and stopped at random places. It was surprisingly cold at nine degrees Celsius, and there was so sun whatsoever, which made it a challenge to find the right lighting as we had no gear at all.

I would’ve loved it if I had a 50mm, f/1.4 lens to use for this shoot. I’d really like that shallow depth of field in some of the head-shots.

But it’ll be off to art school as of tomorrow morning, so hopefully I’ll be able to borrow a lens from them soon!

Post-edited the images with a bit of cross-processing effect. I’ve recently fallen in love with pictures that look like they were film that got developed in the wrong ratio of chemicals. Unfortunately, I neither own or know how to use a dark room, so we’ll have to settle with digital.

Going for a little bit of a fashion/catalog look.

Raided the Eaton Center before any of the stores opened. Actually, considering it’s Labor Day, there were not many people on the streets at all. And Toronto weekends are also a lot less crowded that one imagines. Weekends are actually the most quiet.

Yes, Italian Since… never?

Ended with a wee treat at Starbucks: banana chocolate chip coffee cake.

Afterwards, I went to Chinatown just for the exercise of walking around. I ate a lot of carbs today… =/. Discovered a grocery market that had cheap specials everyday though; got watermelon and a six-pack of kiwis for just $0.99 each!

Well, class starts tomorrow! I’ve got a three-hour drawing class first thing in the morning. For the first week, it appears that we’re just getting the itinerary and assignments; a bit of time to settle in and get to know the school and the people around us.
